“Behind the Myths Tour”: The Report
Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman put on a good show!
Monday night I drove down to Dallas, TX with a colleague to see the “Behind the Myths Tour”, a traveling Mythbusters roadshow with Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman.
They were taking people out of the audience to do demonstrations of scientific principles, but since we lost our way in the strange tangle-briar of the Dallas freeway system, we only arrived just as the show was beginning and did not get our waiver form that must be filled out in order to go on stage. Bummer. But the show was spectacular.
Above is a video of Adam lying on a bed of nails while Jamie busts a cinderblock on Adam’s chest.
The two of them demonstrated several things like two bicycles hooked to sump pumps which when the two cyclists start pedaling, fill a balloon over the opposite cyclist’s head and the one who pumps the most water douses his opponent. They brought out the hot water tank that went into the stratosphere, Jamie’s evil domed robot “Blendo” and several other iconic objects from the show which will be on display in a traveling museum that starts up this week in Chicago.
The water heater that realized it's dream of being a rocket
All in all it was a great show. The show stopper at the end was a giant, four barrel paint ball gun that looked like the machine gun used in Waterworld, except that it shot paintballs and peppered a poor audience member wearing Adam’s personal plate mail. Check the vid below.
The finale was when Buster was supposed to fall out of the rafters and onto the stage. He seemed to be stuck at first, but the gag eventually worked. Mind my hysterical laughter, please…
I loved this show, and if any of the future shows are coming to your town, you need to check it out. I’m glad I did.
