Little Axe Softball Girls 3-Peat at Oklahoma State Championship

Students and teachers look on as the Lady Indians win yet another state championship

Last Friday we all piled on the buses to attend the Oklahoma State High School Softball Championship games held at the Oklahoma Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.  Many of my students were on the field that day and then the following Saturday.  We all cheered until our throats became hoarse, and our girls gave it their all.

There is a dynastic tradition of excellence at Little Axe in many areas, but coaches Dina and Mike Bread hold a special place in the hearts of all of us at the school, as they have led several teams to the state championship for several years.  This year makes the third time they have achieved this and many think we will continue to go for years to come.

Friday’s game was against Washington High School.  The Lady Indians kept Washington off of first base until the 7th inning, as our pitcher struck out and fouled out batter after batter.  We were on base from the first inning, and the game was finally won 1-0.  Saturday we played Sequoyah High School and beat them 1-0 to win the state championship yet again.

I am so proud of my students who work as hard in the classroom as they do on the field.  One of my students (one of these mighty softball players) was brought to tears in the classroom on Wednesday because of all the homework she would have to make up, feeling overwhelmed.  I told her to get it to me next week when things die down, and not to worry about it so much.  She told me today that she would have it to me tomorrow, on time, and carefully done.

If only other students were as hard working as our softball girls.  Way to go, girls!
