Recorded Our First Podcast: Fanboys on Fiction

Blog Post Announcement

Well, we did it.  We have two episodes in the can and plan to release even more as the year goes on.  I now have my own podcast to debut on Sunday night if all goes according to plan.  It’s all part of my many step plan to build my platform as a writer, and I couldn’t have had a better time creating it with my good friend Ryan McKinley.

Ryan is a fellow indie writer who has written two books: The Pirate Bride and The Lost Crew, both available on Amazon.  I’ve known Ryan now for about seven years, and in that time we kind of grew together as writers, inspiring each other to work very hard to build our platforms and gain more and more notoriety.

It is so easy to podcast.  All you need is Garageband, a little Samson mic, some headphones, a quiet place and a site to host the podcast.  There are many free ones out there, and I’m using Podomatic.com.  Right now we will get 15 GB of bandwidth and 500 MB of storage space.  It doesn’t sound like a lot, but with our podcasts clocking in at around 25 minutes each, they won’t take up much space.  If we want more, I can throw down the $10 per month for premium hosting, which will take care of all of our needs right now.

So what is our podcast about, you ask?  We spend the first ten to fifteen minutes discussing indie publishing issues, writing tips and will hopefully soon feature interviews with local authors and artists.  The rest of the show is devoted to fanboy discussion where we hash over topics from the sale of the Star Wars franchise to the death of Peter Parker.  Of course, we also plug our books.  We hope to do future shows from the floor of science fiction or comic book conventions, namely the Dallas Comic Convention in February.

Soon, I will provide a link to the right to the podcast so that all of you can download and listen to our crazy banter, and hopefully get some encouragement to write, write, write.  If you want to send us an e-mail to be read and answered on the show, our email address is Fanboysonfiction@gmail.com!
