Using Twitter Mentions to Increase Blog Traffic

I was averaging 45-50 hits a day until the last two days. I decided to try a little experiment after hitting upon this sort of by accident. It seems to work pretty well. If you don’t believe me, then look at these blog stats:
What I did was simple. I started looking around my desktop at the programs I use all the time: namely Scrivener and Mindnode. These two programs are essential to me for writing novels. I absolutely love them and know my way around them pretty well.
(By the way, if you are a novelist, then get these programs now. They are wonderful and I don’t know what I’d do without them).
These two programs also have Twitter accounts: @ScrivenerApp and @Mindnode. When I discover some new thing I can do with either of these programs, I post a “how-to” article complete with screenshots. I then go on Twitter and tell these two accounts about it. Scrivener has over 11,000 followers and Mindnode has 1,500. They then retweeted my blog post about the use of their products. This causes instant traffic on my blog. The above screenshot was taken around 2:00pm. By 10:00pm I had over 400 hits.
I’m not going to say that this is a magic formula, but it seemed to work the past two days. I will be tweeting to any company I mention from now on. It can’t hurt, and it’s free publicity for those companies.
What products do you use all the time? If you use them, shout about it on your blog and write a few “how-to” articles. Search for them on Twitter. Maybe they have a Twitter account. It couldn’t hurt.
