For those of you who have nothing to do but write all day long and all night, this blog post is not for you. I am sure there are many writers out there attempting the NaNoWriMo who have to pigeon hole time during the day so that they might crank out several thousand words and keep on track to finish by November 30th.
I have a suggestion: purchase a voice recorder.
These devices have external microphones that a person can wear on their heads and walk around hands free recording pages and pages of their novel to be typed up later. There are also a host of wonderful apps for our smart phones to be used for this purpose. Have a long drive to work? Spend several hours doing laundry? Have to wait in a doctor's office? (Yeah, I know. That last one would be weird and probably a bit awkward).
You get the point.
Later, when you have time, you can spend more time typing out your novel and less time staring at the blank screen. Some of us just need to talk out our novel, to act it out. I'm sure all of us would like to see our novel turned into a film (after they promise not to butcher it, of course). Why not act that film out in your head and tell the story into a microphone during the day?
Get it out, and sometimes it will make for really great prose. Release your inner kid. Let that kid daydream.
